Regency Gondola back armchair Empire

French polished antique Scandinavian Biedermeier gondola back armchair in flame mahogany. Very rare shape often mistaken for early Georgian Regency chairs but no doubt influenced by neoclassical Empire and Biedermeier designs. The shaped gondola back supports and curves gently away and scrolls towards the armrests. These are raised by inverse curved supports. The sturdy seat frame holds the pop out seat securely and makes it very easy to change fabric covering Elegant turned front legs in the Thomas Hope manner with back legs in the yatagan style for extra support.
