This delightful George III marriage portrait shows the happy couple with his attributes, him ploughing the field, on his side, and on her side, we see the spinning wheel, dairy pail, spade and chickens. He has a dog, and she a cat. While this details their gender specific roles, it was meant to suggest domestic harmony and prosperity through honest labour. The original frame is 70 cm by 48 cm. Almost certainly this fine naive painting would have been executed by an itinerant painter moved about the countryside, painting (marbling or woodgraining etc) walls or portraits depending on demand.
