A Colonial Australian Cedar writing desk of twin pedestal form the two flights of graduated size drawers with turned wooden knobs and fitted with later brass locks and escutcheons . The pedestals are joined with a "harbour bridge arch" to both front and back. Nicely polished all round so it can stand in the centre of a room. It is most unusual to see a desk of this quality made entirely of Australian cedar, including the drawer backs and bottom, which of course feature hand cut dovetail joints. All drawers open very smoothly. Australian 19th century original.
