Elegant solid oak provincial chair possibly English Georgian or even Gustavian Sweden, where this traditional style is still popular.
Curved top rail is peg jointed to the shaped back stile . The back splat is also curved in the same manner. The tapering legs joined by stretchers.
Good original oak patina is nicely polished. The two piece pine seat may be a later replacement but has had lots of wear and carries a good patina finish.
These chairs usually had a stuffed squab cushion tied on to the back stiles for comfort and easy use. Seat Height 45cm.
