French marquetry Louis XV coffee table

French antique Louis XV style coffee table with ormolu mounts to knees and feet. The well shaped top with quarter veneered satinwood and kingwood cross banding and fruitwood inlays. the shaped apron below with satinwood string banding inlays and raised on shaped carbiole legs. Beautifully french polished finish. Although many believe erroneously that coffee tables have been around for centuries , they are in fact a 20th century invention, as seating furniture became lower in line and less formal for entertaining . This created the need for a lower table.
