Japanese photo type Traditional Family

Original Japanese collotype of the Traditional Japanese family guarded by a lion of Foo Dog. The man as head of the house, followed some steps back by the wife then the child and protected by the fierce looking lion. This rare collotype potographic print is from the collection of rare Japanese antiques assembled by the noted art collector and industrialist Takashi Masuda ( 1848-1938) in Tokyo. Collotypes were a high quality photo print and were in use 1870-1920. They allowed for great quality but the processing was very laborious and costly. In original back wooden frame and under glass
