Rare pair Gondola back armchairs 1840

Scandinavian Biedermeier pair of gondola back armchairs in flame mahogany and fruitwood. A very rare shape often mistaken for early Georgian Regency chairs but no doubt influenced by neoclassical Empire and Biedermeier designs. The shaped back supports and curves gently away and scrolls towards the armcrests. These are raised by inverse curved supports. The seat frame hold the pop out seats securely. .easy to change fabric on. Elegant turned front legs in the Thomas Hope manner with sabre back legs.
