A pierced brass gallery back and large gently sloping desk top opens with a key and working lock. Lifting the top reveals makers mark Gillow & Co and an internal label "by appointment to the King of Spain" just under the brass stay support that holds the desk top open. The interior with an carved Georgian arcade of pigeon holes for documents. The ingenious design has a hidden candle rest hinged into one side. This allows for to rest or for a glass of wine.
